File Format Guide

A text file (Mac, PC, or UNIX) containing a table of data separated by either TABs or commas.

First Column ("Comment"): Free text comment. Use this to represent a sample name or number. Optional.

Second Column ("Temp"): Sample temperature in degrees Kelvin.

Subsequent Columns: Sample composition for each element in either mole fraction, atomic percent or weight percent. This would normally total to 1 (or 100%), but it is not enforced. Elements are identified by their header value, which must be the element's symbol. The element order is at your discretion.

The header row is optional, but if ommitted then the following 21 elements are assumed to be defined, and in the order shown: Fe, C, O, Si, P, S, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Ga, Ge, Zr, Nb, Mo, Hf, Ta, W, Re, Cu.

There is no limit to the number of rows (samples) that can be uploaded, but this server has a file size limit of 128 MB. Computing 800 samples takes approximately 35 seconds.

Header Row?: Click For Help

The header row is optional, but for clarity it is recommended. Look to the "File Format Guide" for more details.

Comment Column?: Click For Help

The comment column is optional, but for clarity it is recommended. Look to the "File Format Guide" for more details.

Composition Format:

Ignore Invalid Rows?: Click For Help

Before processing the data file is checked thoroughly for errors, such as compositions that contain invalid characters, or are simply missing.
If you know that you have invalid compositions or temperatures in your data file and simply wish to ignore them: check this box.

Compute (And Use) Saturated Carbon Content?: Click For Help

It is possible to compute a saturated carbon content for the composition and temperature of each sample. This theoretical value can then be used in the activity calculation. There is a reference for this computation provided on the about page, look for step (v.) of the "Method" section.
